CITROEN DS3 CABRIOLET FOR YOUR SUMMER!

Citroën says its technical solution for the brand new DS3 Cabriolet is modern, but one can clearly see the “retroness” in it. Instead of being able to open the whole entire roof with pillars, only the top part can be displaced, slid backwards towards the rear end. It’s just like they used to do back in the day.

Does this then take away from the DS3 Cabriolet’s beauty? I reckon not. It probably adds to it in fact. At the same time, I think it makes it look more femininethan masculine, meaning the ladies will probably be more impressed than the non-pink guys.

The roof itself comes in three different styles and can be electronicallyoperated at up to 120km/h. as is normal in these instances, extra weighthas been put on as a result of the roof mechanism. Thankfully it’s only to the tune of 25kgon the equivalent tin top DS3.

SPEED PACK FOR JAGUAR XFR

Buyers of the Jaguar XFR in the United Kingdom are in for a bit of a treat after the company announced it would offer them more speed than what other countries are currently gathering. The appropriately-named XFR Speed Pack is now available across the UK at a price of £2750 (about R36 700).

What special superpowersdoes it give you though? Other than extraspeed, it doesn’t look like anything else to be honest. From a limited 250km/h to a higher 280km/h. The engine and gearbox calibration have been revised in order to reliably match the new top speed, while the front aero splitter and a new rear wing are the main distinguishers from the norm. So essentially you are still running the same 5.0-litre V8supercharged at 375kW.

The timing is interesting though, considering that an XFR S has been spied a number of times testing on the Nurburgring and other places. That car will develop a dollop of 405kW, 680Nm and become Jaguar’s fastest ever sedan when it launches.

147KW PEUGEOT 208 GTI BREAKS COVER

Peugeot has released the most intimate details of its latest hot hatch, the 208 GTi. Small in size but seemingly big on attitude, GTi of course based on the new 208 range but adds a few touches of pepper spray in the mix, just in case you look at it in the wrong way.

Pumped up by the company 1.6-litre turbo engine (shared with Citroen, MINI and BMW), the 208 GTi puts out a nice 147kW of power, complimented by 275Nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful car in its class, a class dominated by the likes of Opel Corsa OPC, Volkswagen Polo GTi and upcoming Ford Fiesta ST. It runs a 6-speed manual gearbox that lets it rip off less than 7 seconds from standstill to 100km/h.

Compared to the standard 208 – which launches in Mzansi over the next few weeks – the GTi is wider up front and at the rear. It also features a body kit that includes such sporty wear as 17-inchwheels, recalibrated dampers, LED daytime running lights, GTi badges inside and out, aluminium pedals inside and others.

When it releases here in Mzansi in early 2013, you should be looking at a price of around R280 000.

FORD CELEBRATES 350 MILLIONTH CAR

Ford Motor Company today celebrates the company’s 350 millionth vehicle – a Ford Focus, which is the world’s best-selling car for the first half of 2012.
 

Ford is celebrating the production milestone at its newest global manufacturing facility located in Rayong, Thailand, approximately 200 kilometres southeast of Bangkok. Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) plant is a $450 million facility, opened in May to produce the new Focus, which also is built in four other countries.

FTM represents the latest in Ford’s global manufacturing capabilities, with new stamping presses, flexible body shops and robotic capabilities that enable it to produce up to six different vehicles simultaneously.

“Producing 350 million vehicles is equivalent to producing one vehicle every 10 seconds for our 109-year history. If placed end to end, the vehicles would stretch to the moon and back – twice,” said John Fleming, Ford executive vice president of global manufacturing. “Producing this vehicle in Thailand also is significant. It underscores the power of our One Ford plan to deliver profitable growth with great products built in ultra-flexible and efficient facilities everywhere around the world.”

In addition to the manufacturing milestone, for the first six months of this year, Focus became the best-selling single car nameplate in the world, based on global data from IHS Automotive.

According to IHS Automotive, the Ford Focus sold 489 616 units in the first half of this year. The nearest competitor, Toyota Corolla, sold 462 187. 

“Embracing its performance, value, versatility and fuel economy, the Focus is attracting many new customers to the Ford brand for the very first time, particularly in Asia where we are growing every day,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s group vice president for global marketing, sales and service. “The Focus is a winner on so many levels because it successfully provides customers with what they want most – a safe, smart, fuel-efficient, good-looking, fun-to-drive, affordable car.”

The X-Ray as Lada SUV called this concept, it is nothing like any other SUV ever produced and is seen as belonging to a lineup of world production. The style of this crossover SUV is not something you would expect to see a car maker like Lada budget. He, however, show how the eyes of Lada's in the future, making the car more elegant, offering a wide range. Ships Xray an exterior very stylish, with a pair of long, thin, horizontally mounted headlights that seem integrated into the front grille. The front grille features horizontal blinds, giving a very high-end radiography.

 

 

The side profile of the x-ray looks almost like a Ford Focus with steroids, as their shallow raked windshield swoops a sleek roofline. The front and rear fender bodylines quarts don flowing into the center of the truck, then down and back at an acute angle, giving your character a little side profile added. You will notice the side view that this model only has a couple of doors, no hidden back door, like the Nissan Juke. Ultimately, it could harm his actions as an SUV. The rear of the Lada is one of the sharpest we've seen from a compact SUV. It has a couple of hockey stick taillights and a rear bumper insert has openings for flow dual trapezoidal exhaust tip. This insert has a long insertion and silver in the top plate and two L-shaped pieces around the exhaust tip.

The interior of the Lada is surprisingly elegant, but simple. The steering wheel rim has a dark brown, silver and three positions brown center that matches the color of the seat. There are a handful of control buttons on the steering wheel, but nothing too big. The panel has a whitish color by inserting a black seat and adjust. The center console is decorated in the same color and black seat, but throws in some silver accents on the shifter and a metal bar on the passenger side of the console. Apparently, this SUV Crossover probably receive most of their competition Nissan Juke. Most likely, this concept will donate a matter of style to another nearby Lada vehicles and never see the light of day itself.

BMW: NO 3 SERIES TOURING FOR MZANSI

BMW South Africa has confirmed that it will not be offering a 3 Series Touring for our market. Touring is BMW speak for “station wagon”. This decision contradicts all direct rivals available in Mzansi. For instance, Audi offers Avant versions of the A4. Mercedes-Benz and Volvo also sell C-Class Estate and V60 models respectively.

Of course Mzansi is not exactly a hive of activity as far as wagons are concerned. We just don’t like these types of vehicles, and in fact, much less so since SUVs arrived on the scene. Quite a pity because they offer so much more car than sedans and some of them are now really pretty too.

Ford today revealed the dynamic new version of the best-selling Fiesta that features a sharper design and a host of exclusive technology features. The new Fiesta will be on stage tomorrow in Amsterdam at Ford’s special “Go Further” product event hosted by Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally and attended by 2 500 dealers.  

New Fiesta delivers an advanced package of technologies including voice-activated in-car connectivity system Ford SYNC. Making its way to the Asia Pacific and Africa region, it will also be equipped with the acclaimed 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine to deliver expected best-in-class fuel economy.
